About the Artist

John Aldridge RA (1905–1983) was a British oil painter and member of the Royal Academy whose landscapes capture the quiet rhythms of the rural English countryside. Settling in Great Bardfield, Essex in 1933, the fields and skies of the county became the core subject of his work. His work is held in the collections of the Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Royal Academy, as well as the Fry Art Gallery in Saffron Walden, close to Great Bardfield itself.
